Teardrop Hack #5: Battery-powered LED Lights

My first choice would always be to tap into the existing 12 volt power source, or the shorepower, but I also didn't want to be drilling, cutting, routing visible wires, etc., all over the place. I didn't want someone walking up to our teardrop and be compelled to ask: "So...do you have a flux capacitor in there, too??"

At the same time, we felt the need to illuminate the interior spaces more than the stock LED lights did. Specifically, we wanted to be able to light up each interior cabinet space, galley cabinets, the underside of the galley hatch cover, and underneath our interior cabinet structure to be able to see into any dark corners of the small interior.

Off to Home Depot.

Here's the galley hatch with the three additional lights attached (with two sided tape):

In the interior cabinets we put in lights just like the ones pictured below (which we also mounted as supplemental galley lights):

It makes a huge difference to have light in places that'd otherwise be pretty dark.

I think altogether we put in a total of 12 or 13 AA battery-powered lights. They draw so little, that they should last a long time before swapping out batteries. Plus, they automatically turn off after about 30 minutes--a nice feature if you forget to flick the switch.
