Change of Vehicles
Well, we really never thought we'd change from our Subaru Crosstrek to anything else, given how much we really love that thing. But...we also have two 55lb dogs that we really want to travel with. And while I love our dogs, I don't love the thought of their hair, and their smells in my car (as I'm sure others don't, either). That's why they haven't travelled with us on any of our teardrop trips yet.
So we made the decision to buy a slightly used 2016 Nissan Frontier SV - 4X4, onto which we can put a camper shell, and under which the dogs can sleep. No hair...no smells...and a hosable space to boot!
Now that we've made the purchase and given it a quick spin with the teardrop attached, we are more convinced than ever that it was the right choice. It's a 6cyl engine (as opposed to the 4cyl of the Subaru), and can pull 6500lbs, as opposed to the Subaru's 1500lbs capacity. We'll suffer on mileage, for sure, but given that I work mostly from home, it'll accrue very few commuter miles.
We also wanted to make sure we had a full back seat for when we drive around with our son and his family. This thing is awesome! We are no longer the brightest objects on the road, but the tradeoff is worth it.
